Crush Imposter Syndrome by Deciding First

Hey there. Let’s talk about imposter syndrome. We all deal with it at some point. That voice in your head that tells you you’re not good enough or that you don’t belong. The typical advice is to just keep taking action until you build confidence from your results. But what if we flipped that?

What if you decided that you were the type of person who does the thing before you even start?

That’s what I’m encouraging you to do. It doesn’t matter what area of life you’re working on. Career, fitness, relationships, personal goals... decide that you are the kind of person who does those things. Then take action. The belief comes first. The action comes next. The results are there to support what you already know about yourself.

This might feel strange at first. Especially if you’ve always thought you had to earn the right to call yourself something. Like calling yourself a runner before your first mile. Or an artist before your first sketch. But this isn’t about pretending. This is about practicing a mindset that works in your favor instead of against you.

Confidence should not be about proving something to the outside world. It should be about reinforcing something inside you. This isn’t just mental fluff either. We do this all the time, but usually in the opposite direction. Think about a negative belief you’ve held about yourself. You probably didn’t wait for overwhelming evidence. You just believed it and kept finding proof to support it. So what if you did that with something positive?

The more I practice this approach, the more solid it feels. I’ve found that I don’t need to feel like I belong before I act. I just need to decide that I do. That decision drives everything else. It keeps me moving. It helps me push past the doubts. And yeah, my mind still tries to pull me back sometimes. That’s normal. But if I can be in this mindset most of the time, that’s a win.

So if imposter syndrome is something you deal with, try flipping the script. Decide who you are. Then go act like it. Not to prove anything. But to live in alignment with the belief you already chose.
