Why It’s a Privilege to Know You

Hey there. For a long time, I told myself, “I just want to be understood.” It felt like a constant struggle to get people to see me, to really get me. But over time, I realized something that changed everything: the only person who truly needs to understand you is you.

Think about how freeing that is. You don’t need to spend your energy trying to explain yourself or worrying about whether others “get” you. The people who do? Treat that as a privilege—because it is.

We live in a fast-paced, surface-level world where depth can feel like a rare gem. Social media plays a role, sure, but this lack of depth creeps into all areas of life. That’s why the relationships you choose to nurture should have meaning and value.

And here’s the key: You decide who has access to you and to what level. It’s one thing to say you know your worth. It’s another thing entirely to enforce it. Not everyone deserves to know the real you, and that’s okay.

This mindset doesn’t mean isolating yourself. It means being intentional about your connections. It means valuing the people who value you and building relationships that go beyond the surface. Whether it’s friendships, romantic relationships, or family ties, you set the tone.

So stop wasting time trying to be understood by everyone. Instead, focus on understanding yourself. Know what makes you tick, why you do what you do, and where you want to go. When you’re clear on those things, the right people will naturally gravitate toward you—and the rest? They’re not meant to.
